EHS Coordinator – Safety, Fire Protection & Hazardous Waste

Job Summary

This EHS Coordinator is responsible for ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and environmental requirements while promoting a strong culture of safety across the organization. This role oversees employee safety programs, fire protection systems, hazardous waste management, regulatory reporting, and emergency preparedness. The position has authority to enforce compliance, correct unsafe conditions, and support continuous improvement initiatives that protect employees, property, and the environment.

Key Responsibilities

 OSHA Compliance & Employee Safety

  • Maintain and administer OSHA compliance programs.
  • Oversee and ensure effectiveness of LOTO, confined space, machine guarding, and PPE programs.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and hazard assessments.
  • Lead investigations for injuries, incidents, and near-misses.
  • Track and ensure timely closure of corrective actions related to safety findings.
  • Promote employee engagement in proactive safety reporting and hazard prevention.

Fire Protection Systems

  • Oversee fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, and fire pump operations.
  • Manage the fire extinguisher inspection and maintenance program.
  • Coordinate required fire system inspections and manage system impairments.
  • Ensure timely correction of identified deficiencies.
  • Maintain readiness and operational integrity of all fire protection systems.

Hazardous Waste Management & Regulatory Reporting

  • Manage the RCRA hazardous waste program in full regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee waste profiling, manifesting, storage, and disposal documentation.
  • Ensure proper handling, labeling, and storage of hazardous waste.
  • Prepare and submit accurate and timely Tier II reports.
  • Maintain required environmental records and documentation.

Emergency Preparedness & Response

  • Develop, coordinate, and execute emergency response drills.
  • Support site emergency response coordination efforts.
  • Assist in maintaining and improving emergency response procedures.

Authority

  • Authority to require correction of unsafe acts or hazardous conditions.
  • Stop-work authority for unsafe operations.
  • Authority over hazardous waste operational compliance.
  • Authority to ensure fire protection system readiness and compliance.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Reduction in Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR).
  • Increased near-miss reporting engagement.
  • 100% compliance with required fire system inspections.
  • 100% on-time Tier II report submission.
  • Timely closure of safety corrective actions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field preferred.
  • 3–5 years of experience in an EHS, safety, or environmental compliance role (manufacturing or industrial environment preferred).
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and EPA/RCRA hazardous waste requirements.
  • Experience managing fire protection systems and regulatory inspections preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as OSHA 30, CHST, ASP, CSP, or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience with incident investigation methodologies and corrective action tracking systems.
  • Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and local regulations.
